Find the License

Are you tired of unlicensed “plumbers” working in our industry?  Are you tired of having a statewide license law with no bite?  Then let’s do something about it!!  Our PHCC has already made lots of headway with the “Hire A Licensed Plumber” campaign.  We have made more strides in the past few years than ever before but we can do more.  The professionalism of our industry rests with the license.  Click here to learn more about the FLAG Program.

Plumbing Code Review To Begin

NOTE:  NEW DATE!

The Indiana Fire and Building Safety Code Services Division has begun the process of updating the Indiana Plumbing Code.  A public meeting will be held on April 15th in the Indiana Government Center South Building, Room TBD, Indianapolis, IN.

World Plumbing Day is March 11th

March 11, 2010 has been designated as World Plumbing Day.  The aim of the day is to raise awareness about the critical role which today's plumbing industry plays in relation to public health and the health of our planet and the environment.

Many people see the plumber as the person who unblocks drains and fixes leaks.  In reality, professional plumbing , properly installed and maintained is critical in ensuring that our health is protected.  Unsafe water supply systems within buildings and ineffective sanitation could, and sadly does, lead to significant health problems and even death.  With an increasing global focus on climate change, the plumbing industry is again a major player whether in relation to water conservation, use and reuse issues or in the installation and maintenance of equipment using renewable sources of energy.

Did you know that preventable diseases related to water and sanitation claim the lives of 3.1 million people per year, most of them children less than 5 years old?  Of these, about 1.6 million people die each year of diarrheal diseases associated wtih lack of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.

Looking for a HOT Career?

U.S. News & World Reports lists Plumber as one of the 50 best careers of 2010 and one that should have strong growth over the next decade.  They say employment growth in the industry is expected to be better than average over the next decade.  They cite upward mobility, a low stress level and money as reasons for their selection.  If you are considering choosing a career, choose plumbing!

Consumer Spring Tips
  • An irrigation system should be checked each spring before use to make sure it was not damaged by frost or freezing.
  • An irrigation system that has a leak 1/32nd of an inch in diameter (about the thickness of a dime) can waste about 6,300 gallons of water per month.
  • Check your garden hose for leaks at its connection to the spigot.  If it leaks while you run your hose, replace the nylon or rubber hose washer and ensure a tight connection to the spigot.
